Rajasthan Royals head coach Rahul Dravid has shed light on Sanju Samson’s involvement in deciding the retentions ahead of IPL 2025 auction. The RR captain, along with Dhruv Jurel, Shimron Hetmyer, Riyan Parag, Yashasvi Jaiswal and Sandeep Sharma, have been retained by the franchise. Surprisingly, big names like Jos Buttler, Yuzvendra Chahal and Ravichandran Ashwin have been released.
Sanju Samson’s role in deciding RR retentions ahead of IPL 2025 auction
Speaking to Hindustan Times, Rahul Dravid explained that Sanju Samson had to make some tough calls while deciding on the retentions. The RR coach pointed out that Samson had worked closely with many individuals for years together and that the team was sad for the players they couldn’t retain.
“Sanju Samson had a big role to play in these retentions. He faced a lot of difficulty, too. As a captain, he has built a lot of relationships with these players. We are very sad for the players we couldn’t retain, and Sanju has worked with these players for 5-6 years now,” Dravid said.

He claimed that there was a lot of discussion and debate on the retentions between the skipper and the team management. Dracid said that the team was pretty happy about the retention picks at the end.
