Two-time Olympic medallist Neeraj Chopra is searching for a new coach. Since 2019, Chopra has been working with biomechanics expert Klaus Bartonietz, but the 75-year-old coach now wants a break. He himself suggested that Neeraj Chopra should look for new mentorship. India’s golden boy may seek someone who can further enhance his performance.

Athletics Federation of India (AFI) president Adille Sumariwalla, as reported by the Circle of Sport website, stated, “Bartonietz mentioned he had done his best and felt it was time for Neeraj to work with a new coach who could take his performance to the next level.” Neeraj has been training under top coaches. He trained with Bartonietz for more than five years. Since AFI hired him in 2019, Neeraj has won two Olympic medals, a World Championship title, and the Diamond League.

As Neeraj searches for a new coach, here are some potential candidates:

Jan Zelezny (Czech Republic)

Jan Zelezny is the world record holder and Olympic champion in javelin throw, with a record throw of 98.48 metres. He is not only an exceptional athlete but also a brilliant coach. Now a renowned Czech javelin coach, he has trained many world-class athletes.
He is especially known for coaching Barbora Spotakova, a two-time Olympic gold medallist and world record holder in javelin. Zelezny is recognised for his ability to identify and improve athletes’ weaknesses through rigorous training methods.

Petteri Piironen (Finland)

Petteri Piironen is a renowned Finnish javelin coach who has trained several world-class athletes, including Olympic champion Keshorn Walcott. He is known for his scientific approach to coaching and his expertise in developing athletes’ technique and power. While Piironen is not currently coaching Neeraj Chopra, he could be a potential candidate for the position.
