Franchises can retain a maximum of two uncapped players ahead of the IPL 2025 auction. To do so, they must pay maximum of 4 crores per player, allowing teams to secure their preferred players at a relatively lower cost. This rule also applies to uncapped Indian players who have retired from international cricket or not played International game for at least five years.

His current price is Rs. 12 crore, but CSK may prefer to retain Dhoni at a lower price due to concerns about his fitness and the uncertainty over how many matches he will play in IPL 2025.
